Albuquerque breaks ground on 3 major housing projects across city neighborhoods

Albuquerque is preparing to add hundreds of new housing units through projects now in pre-construction or active building across Uptown, the Southeast corridor and the West Side.

The timing matters because several developments have reached decision points on financing, site plans and partnerships that will determine when residents can move in. City housing staff have listed eight initiatives on the Housing Now site, each tied to specific addresses and unit counts that reflect local priorities for affordability and neighborhood stability.

Projects at key stages

At 7200 Central SE, the Somos Apartments development is listed in pre-construction with plans for 70 units, 59 of them affordable. Farther west, West Mesa Ridge A at 701 Coors NW is also in pre-construction and slated for 128 affordable units. Uptown Connect, a partnership between ABQ RIDE and a private developer, is positioned to combine hundreds of mixed-rate rentals with commercial space and improved bus access near existing transit routes. On the West Side, Casitas Del Camino at 112 60 NW TH remains in pre-construction with 88 affordable units planned as part of a mixed-use effort.

Four other sites have already advanced. Calle Cuarta at 3525 4th Street NW and Route 66 Flats at 7600 Central SW are both under construction, delivering 61 and 47 affordable units respectively. Farolito Senior Community at 10501 Central NE is under construction as dedicated senior housing. Park Central at 300 San Mateo NE is still in contract negotiation and would include 110 total units, 41 of them affordable.

Next steps for residents and developers

City records show that projects still in pre-construction require final approvals on design and funding before shovels move. Those already under construction face typical permitting and inspection milestones that can shift occupancy dates.
